The Risk Reduction Vaccine cannot guarantee the prevention of involuntary psychiatric
hospitalization. It is a legal safeguard that asserts your rights as a patient. However, in
case of public safety or if deemed necessary by the hospital, involuntary hospitalization
cannot be averted.
According to Ontario’s Substitute Decisions Act (1996), one can appoint any related
person to make healthcare-related decisions on your behalf if, in the future, you are
unable to do so yourself. The person is appointed to make decisions in your interest.
The law states that any related person can be appointed as a Power of Attorney,
including: spouse/partner, parent, adult child (18+), siblings, or any other family member.
Yes, you can. However, the process can differ based on your legal capacity or treatment
status.
No, the system is only designed for adults who can enter legally binding agreements,
such as a Power of Attorney. A person must be at least 16 to avail of this system in
Ontario.
Yes, the service covers provinces such as Alberta, British Columbia, and certain other
Canadian provinces, along with select European and US regions.
